Major streaming platforms are tightening their content policies — and it’s something every artist and label needs to be aware of.
We’ve been officially notified by both Spotify and Amazon Music that they are actively identifying and removing releases using generic or descriptive terms as artist names. This is part of an ongoing effort to uphold content quality and authenticity across their platforms.
🚨 What’s Changing?
According to their Generic Artist Content Policy:
“We do not permit content where generic words or genre names are used as the artist name (e.g., ‘sleep sounds’, ‘top hits’, ‘relaxing jazz’, ‘white noise’, ‘Christmas’, ‘hip-hop’, ‘meditation music’).”
As enforcement increases, both Spotify and Amazon Music are already removing non-compliant content — and we anticipate other major DSPs (Digital Service Providers) will soon adopt similar measures.

As a distribution partner, we will continue to reject any new releases that don’t comply with these guidelines during quality control checks. Additionally, if your existing releases are flagged and removed, we will be notified directly.
