BLS_BROKELESS – ‘Disappointment Leads To Blessings’

“Music is the one thing I love most, I started dreaming of music in my early teens when I was still living with my aunty, who became my mother.” BLS BROKELESS delivers Looku Looku, a remarkably inspiring hustler’s anthem and a gentle reminder of what the grind encompasses.

As BLS BROKELESS’ new EP, titled For Believers, nears its release date, GODSPOWERPROJECT offers a perspective into what the project really signifies—artistically and culturally—not just for BLS BROKELESS himself, but for every independent artiste across Africa.

Deji Obasa (GODSPOWERPROJECT, Lagos, Nigeria)

Obus Okukubor, popularly known as BLS BROKELESS, hit music stardom at a young age. After releasing a series of freestyles, music skits, and amateur appearances, his brand gained traction and success.

“Next thing you know, we’re getting goosebumps from watching music videos or shows, or just listening to songs after recording,” Obus said in a 2024 online interaction with fans while talking about his music journey—foretelling an even greater glory.

His road to stardom mirrors that of many in the entertainment industry. They are handed nothing but disappointments, yet their faith in God gives them a path out of conditions many wouldn’t survive.

“I did a lot of odd jobs; worked at pure water companies, I did Kaya, hawked pure water, hawked plantain, packed dirty, and iron condemned. I also worked with some importer and exporter to offload containers full of London used goods at Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos. Finally, I decided to commit myself to music.”

A major inspiration to Obus Okukubor’s music aspirations when he first arrived in Lagos was Felix Ejoor of blessed memory, his aunty’s son, popularly known as Feco G, who headlined a lot of concerts around Ojo, Alaba, Iyana Cele, and many surrounding locations. “He was a superstar. They called him Feco G, but his real name was Felix Ejoor.”

Obus embarked on his musical career in 2020, with his first studio experience at Danzil Studios, where he first met Debanjo Vibes and their working relationship clicked. He went on to release a series of projects, such as Money, Your Something (Wife Material), and For Lagos.

Without prejudice toward his other music projects, Obus enjoyed his first mainstream recognition in 2023 for the Street Vibes project with Oritse Femi, along with cameo appearances in music videos and skits. By 2024, he had already amassed a number of freestyles with growing listenership and critical acclaim, releasing them on free platforms to a fast-growing fanbase.

BLS BROKELESS has produced four EPs: Street Vibes EP featuring Sunny B and Oritse Femi, Next Level EP featuring Debanjo Vibes, Ajura, and GCN, For Lagos EP featuring Ajura and GCN, and Disappointment Leads To Blessings (2025 EP).

Relatable lyrics from Looku Looku:

Looku Looku, e dey for Lagos
Their eyes dey shine on top
Life no be garri
Life no be beans
Na who love us we go love
Try to dey press some for Mumsy for house
As you dey spend on top big bumbum
Brother, anything fit to sup
