The quest for new information regarding the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad has faced a legal hurdle. A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled against a suit aimed at initiating a new investigation into his passing.

Court Dismisses Fresh Investigation Request for Mohbad
The court dismissed the action brought by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, as reported by Leadership Newspaper. Justice James Omotosho stated the foundation did not have the legal capacity to file the suit and deemed it speculative and lacking sufficient merit.
A key issue identified was the absence of the original police investigation report, which the foundation failed to present. This document was critical in arguing that the previous probe was insufficient and could have influenced the decision to reopen the case.
The foundation’s legal pursuit followed ongoing concerns surrounding how the initial investigation was conducted. Earlier proceedings indicated that the decision on this matter was expected on September 29.
Justice Omotosho advised lawyers in ongoing cases against discussing issues handled by the court through the media. He cautioned that such actions might be seen as professional misconduct.
Mohbad’s death, which occurred on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, continues to attract legal and public interest.
